History of Supernatural Thrillers.


The 30's- Topper (1937)
Starring Cary Grant and Constance Bennett playing a mischievous ghostly couple who bedevil banker Cosmo Topper and his wife into having a new found excitement for life. The film was followed by two follow on films; sequel Topper Takes a Trip (1939) and Topper Returns (1941)
The 40's- I Married a Witch (1942)
French Director Rene Clair's best Hollywood picture with Veronica Lake as a Salem witch, returning to haunt descendant of her Puritan accusers which leads to romance.
The 50's- Bell, Book and Candle (1958)
A romantic supernatural thriller adapted from Broadway with James Stewart and Kim Novak as his bewitching neighbour.
The 60's- The Haunting (1963)
Robert Wise's thriller bases on Shirley Jackson's classic about a group of people drawn together by a parapsychologist and two mediums to spend a night in a haunted house.
The 70's- The Legend of Hell House (1973)
Four researchers (scientists and mediums) who spend one week in a new house known to be inhabited by spirits.
The 80's- The Shining (1980)
A loose adaption of Steven King's novel and directed by Stanley Kubrick. An ex-alcoholic becomes a caretaker in a Colorado resort as he turns psychotic towards his family like the caretaker before him.  
The 90's- Jacob's Ladder (1990)
Jacob Singer returns home from the Vietnam War plagued with disturbing hallucinations and flashbacks as he tries to maintain his sanity.

00's- Paranormal activity (2007)

A couple, after become disturbed in there new home by a supernatural presence, set up video cameras throughout their house to record evidence.

2017- Rings

A young woman becomes worried when her boyfriend becomes obsessed with a dark sub culture surrounding a videotape meant to kill the watcher seven days later.
